Bolts of Nuts & Bolts

In quilting, a long piece of fabric that's usually wound on a flattened cardboard tube, making it
easy for merchants to stack fabrics together horizontally or vertically for display is
called a BOLT - did you know that?

And I just discovered that there are tons of bolts of fabrics with
nuts, bolts, screws, washers and wing nuts on them.

Look at these!

Can you believe there are so many?!

And who, besides me, would want these?
Actually, I'm not even sure I want them.
What would I do with these fabrics - make a dress? No way.
Throw-pillows? N-O!
Hmm...I have to think about it but I'm not really sure
anything would be cool made out of these.

However, some fabric vendors have a great sense of humor built
around their nuts & bolts - check these out:

The slogan over at Nuts & Bolts Fabric is "They are nuts about their bolts!"

At Thousands of Bolts they say "Thousands of bolts...only one nut!"

How would curtains look?

While Justine's away

...Freeway Fasteners will play!

The Freeway Blogmaster General, yours truly, has been vacationing in Spain, so that's why there wasn't a post last week...pardóname (that's Spanish.)

But look at the fun our warehouse had without me...

This season won't be complete without your very own flatwasher piercing. OUCH! IMAGINE!

And his poor shoulders! They already have to carry the weight of his big head but now that thing too?! Impressive.

Just in time for BACK TO SCHOOL

Send your little ones off to class with these crayons!

My nieces would flip if I got these for them - they of course love nuts & bolts too.

Found them at  www.icr8.com

Great Gifs

I found a website with tons of gifs about science and technology - I love gifs (gif stands for the Graphics Interchange Format). They have some fun ones of nuts and bolts!

Look at these:

Actually we call these 'CARRIAGE' Bolts - the gif is from the UK where they say things differently.

Their diagrams are super clear and informative too - like this one :

The website is called technologystudent.com - it contains numerous information sheets and exercises to enhance the study, understanding and teaching of DESIGN and TECHNOLOGY.  I enjoyed visiting each section too because they built gif files for everything! They were fun to watch and I even learned stuff.

The Bolts...the band

We found a band called THE BOLTS (imagine our excitement!)

They're good too - strong guitar licks, four-part harmonies - and they're from Orange County, Calif! We definitely want to support local boys.

So we are happy to share with you THE BOLTS.

Here is where you can find more info about them: The Bolts Official Website

High Fashion Fasteners

Have you ever seen a ring or bracelet that looks like this?
A company called Cartier  (I know you've heard of them!) sells them and they're called the LOVE Ring or the LOVE Bracelet.

Do you recognize what they are using to evoke love?
Slotted Flathead Screws - my favorites.
And the jewelry is hugely successful!

Below is what the Cartier website says about their LOVE Collection:

"The original provocative bracelet -created in the 1970's- which could only be opened with a tiny screwdriver. It soon became a piece of cult jewellery for modern day lovers.  A Cartier icon, the LOVE collection is both a provocative talisman and a bold symbol of passionate love. Allow yourself to become one with your partner, possess or let yourself be possessed… How far would you go for LOVE?"
Very cool.

The LOVE Collection was designed by a man named Aldo Cipullo, a designer for Cartier between 1969 and 1974. Recently the Cartier Mansion on 5th Avenue in New York, their flagship store, displayed an exhibit of archival images called, "Cartier & Aldo Cipullo, New York City in the ’70s".  This line was a huge success for Cartier then and even now!

“I became a great connoisseur of nuts, screws and other fasteners. This hardware, as hard as it is in appearance, has a certain warmth. The jewelry must generate heat.” said Aldo Cipullo, from an article on Stylerumer.com

So I thought I should get myself one and I looked them up on Ebay - $855 PEOPLE!!!  And that's discounted! Whoa...I think I'll just admire them from a far actually.

But thanks Aldo for making my little fasteners sexy...and expensive!

An Old Box from the Old Days

I mentioned the Gary Screw & Bolt Company in a previous post - THIS ONE - and today I found one of their old crates for sale on Etsy.  I know it's just an old crate but I kind of want it.  It's sort of a tribute to the fastener days of yore, and those ladies of lag bolts who handled things like we do.  But it's $48 - what?!
