Gift an Andrew Myers

THIS WOULD MAKE A GREAT GIFT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Andrew Myers is our favorite artist. (We've posted about him a couple of times here, here and here.) Not only because he uses screws as his medium but because his ability is amazing. I'm always impressed how much feeling there is in his pieces. It's the way he draws, his details and his lines, the subjects often have a vulnerability, playfulness or sweetness that I am deeply attracted to.  They're just great, like this one.

Anyways, until now I never thought it possible I could have one! But Andrew is giving one away (GASP!)  It's not one of his portraits but an abstract, which are also beautiful.

Here's how you can enter:  First 'like' him on Facebook and then share a photo on your Facebook page - this photo - and you're entered! You may win the piece in the photo (the one below.)  That's it.  I included the links to everything so click away and enter.

And when you win,
GIVE IT TO ME FOR CHRISTMAS!!!!

We heart Andrew Myers!

At the top of the list of things we love is Andrew Myers.

We mentioned him in our blog last year in Screwed Up Portraits but we never mentioned that we met up with him at his studio and he let us see some of his finished pieces and some of his current works in progress.  He's both talented and cool and the pieces are even more spectacular in person.

His studio

Up close with a work in progress.

First he draws them and then holes are drilled where the screw will be placed.

Then each screw is put in place at a specific height so there is contoured shape to them.

Lastly the head of each screw is hand painted.

Andrew shared difficulties he comes across using different lengths of screws & different materials.

Andew Myers...how does he do it?

Other artwork.

Some drawings.

What a talented guy, right?!

Be sure to check him out www.andrewmyersart.com

And he recently finished the one way above that we saw in its infancy. Here is a photo of the final version from his facebook page:
He said he used 9,800 screws!

Screwed up portraits!

You have to see this guy's art work! Andrew Myers is an artist based in Laguna Beach, CA and he makes art out of screws - but not sculptures! Most art made with fasteners are sculptures of different people or animals (which I also love) but this guy is making portraits that resemble paintings! He's using the heads of screws as if they were the paint - they are amazing! I can't use enough exclamation points!

For more info, here is a cool article I found on him at AOL News - it has more photos & some cool videos - or go straight to his website Andrew Myers Art.

I heart Andrew Myers.
